Riverstone slate has a distinctive grey/green colour and is available with adressed edge finish. The colouring is completely natural and will not fade even when exposed to the harshest environments.
The slate comes in a choice of two thicknesses (Ultra and Ultra Heavy) and in a variety of sizes to suit most traditional English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish requirements.
Riverstone is mined from the San Luis quarry in the La Florida region of central Argentina, and in great demand throughout Europe and the US. It is one of the highest quality roofing slates available in the UK, and is suitable for a wide variety of applications, equally ideal for the refurbishment of old buildings or new build projects.
The grey/green colour makes Riverstone Ultra an ideal replacement for the indigenous slate of the South West and Wales. Riverstone Ultra Heavy is ideal for use in Scotland. Both English Heritage and Historical Scotland have given their approval for using Riverstone in listed buildings.
Riverstone conforms to BS 680: Part 2 and the American ASTM, S1 standard. It is rated class A by the French standard P32/302.Comes with a 75 Year SSQ backed Guarantee and conforms to BSEN12326-1 A1,T1, S1.
Slates - no more grey areas
The change from the British Standard BS 680 to European Standard BS EN 12326-1 and -2 has resulted in a need for the user or specifier to specify what level of performance and durability they want.
NHBC has been working with the industry to establish what should be the minimum specification to meet with NHBC standards to ensure the product has acceptable durability.
Under BS EN 12326 consignments of slates should now have an “accompanying commercial document (ACD)” from the producer/supplier indicating the slate’s performance.
For compliance with NHBC standards a slate should achieve an A1, S1 and T1 code:
• Water Absorption
For compliance should be no greater than 0.6%
i.e. A1 code.
• Carbonate content
High carbon content can cause colour changes and
potential for accelerated erosion. For compliance
should achieve S1 code.
• Thermal Cycle
This is a test for reactive metallic minerals within the slate,
which may cause staining, pitting and/or delamination
and potential failure of the slate. A T2 slate may rust and
a T3 slate will most certainly rust.
For compliance should achieve a T1 code.
